DAY 10: BEST TRIP OF MY LIFE!
This one was much easier for me than I initially thought it might be. I’ve had some pretty epic trips with equally epic people, but I think my all-time favorite was when I went to Chicago with my mom. Some of you may think that’s a weak choice, but I assure you I’ve never been happier.
I had always dreamed of going to
Chicago Wrigley Field (crazy sports fan over here); I think I started fanaticizing about how amazing it would be around the age of 5. Thanks to my overly studious attitude (B-O-R-I-N-G), I was able to make that dream a reality. I was part of an undergraduate research lab in college and my partner and I decided to try our hand at doing our own research and presenting it at the 24th Annual APS Convention. I will be completely honest here, the driving force behind me taking on such a huge amount of work was because the convention was being help in Chicago! This was it! This was the moment that I had been waiting for! My mom and I decided to turn my school trip into a full-blown vacation! Fortunately for me, our presentation was on the first night of the conference so we were able to get it over with and then have the rest of the trip to enjoy everything Chicago had to offer!
I’m not sure how many of you have had to present research in circumstances like this, but holy moly, it’s incredibly nerve-racking. We were pretty anxious the first couple of times running through our research and the findings, but we eventually settled in and cruised through the remainder of our time slot. I know you can’t tell what any of that says from the picture above but I assure you it was an academic slam dunk. All in all, I think we crushed it (but I may be biased)!
After finishing up with my school obligations, it was time to see what Chicago had to offer…and let me tell you; it has A LOT! I ate all the deep dish pizza, went to the zoo, saw the Navy Pier, took a peek at the Bean, took an architecture tour, ate more deep dish pizza (duh), went to the aquarium, devoured a Chicago Dog, saw the Michael Jordan statue (because obviously) and FINALLY went to Wrigley Field. When I tell you that I am not sure I can pinpoint a time in my life where I was happier than I was in that moment, I’m not exaggerating. If you are a baseball fan, or a sports fan in general, then you get it. This is Wrigley. I was worried that people may have hyped it up too much and that it was going to be a let down…I’m so glad I was wrong. What an experience. Mom sprung for some pretty awesome seats since we had never been and they didn’t disappoint. The Cubs even won…and they were terrible back then! This was obviously pre-World Series Champion Cubs. I can’t wait to go back!
Like I said, my time in Chicago was the best time of my life. I felt like I walked 100 miles over the course of the week but I can safely say it was worth the blisters and the gnarly sun burn (I’ll include pictures of that later!) If you ever get the chance to take in that wonderful city, you should! The sights are lovely and the pizza is divine!
I mean come on, doesn’t that pizza look marvelous? I miss it so much. Le sigh. And that sunburn, YIKES! Of course that would happen the same day we were set to present our research and the only dress I brought to wear was sleeveless…oops. Fun fact: I used an ENTIRE tube of concealer trying to hide the redness…it only partially worked!
So what is the best trip of your life? I’d love to know!
