Can you believe it’s been EIGHTEEN years since this gem came out? On April 12, 1999 I finally knew what true love felt like (well, true love for an 11 year old). I will never forget the first time I saw this video, I cried…are you surprised…well you shouldn’t be! VH1 rated “I Want It That Way” as the 3rd best song of the 90s, coming in behind Nirvana (“Smells Like Teen Spirit”) and U2 (“One”) and beating out the Whitney Juggernaut of “I Will Always Love You” that took the number 4 spot! Clearly this song was as influential as I thought it was. I mean come one, who can hate on a song and a video that has 5 handsome boys singing to you in an airplane hanger? I know I sure I can’t!
I vividly remember skipping school, with parental permission of course, on May 18, 1999 so that I could go to the store (HiFi Buys if I remember correctly) and purchase the Millennium album. I was like a kid in a candy store. I was beyond excited, and let me tell you, that record didn’t disappoint. Millennium is said to be one of the best selling albums of all time; “I Want It That Way” dominated TRL for weeks and weeks and the album went on to go Diamond, selling 13 million copies in the U.S. and over 40 million worldwide. This is just a classic stroke of pop genius! So let’s all take a moment to celebrate this epic album and how great A.J’s dance moves
Backstreet’s Back, ALRIGHT!!!!
